With the increased presence of generative AI in the recruitment space, Vieple has decided to change when we record a candidate during video interviews. In addition to recording the candidates answer, we now record a candidate while they are reviewing the question, before they start recording the answer.
This change will allow an administrator (or reviewer) to check for any suspicious behaviour on the candidates end, during the question review time.
This will not increase the video length, and is separately stored in the respondent’s page, using the new: Flag Suspicious Respondent button.
Basic Information
Candidate Experience
![]() | For the candidate, mechanically there isn’t much of a difference.
There are no new buttons or features to explore.
In the introduction to the video interview, and during the steps between each question, the text on screen will remind them that they are being recorded and specify that they are being recorded during the review time as well. |
![]() | While they are reviewing the question, they can see a video of themselves, just like they can when they’re recording their answer. However, this video is darkened but still has the red recording logo and text reminding them that they are in fact being recorded. |

Administrator Experience
On the respondent and response pages, in the admin/reviewer view, there is an additional toggle that starts this new feature.
![]() Recommend Review, as default, set to No | Under Suspicious Behaviour, we have the Recommend Review toggle. This toggle, when active, sets the candidate to the status 'Recommend Review'. |
![]() Recommend Review, set to Yes | |
![]() The Respondent flagged for Recommend Review | While a candidate is in the Recommend Review state, an additional button appears underneath Recommend Review, Flag Suspicious Behaviour. |
![]() | When an admin or a reviewer presses this button, a pop up appears and prompts the user to select a video. These videos are the recordings taken from the user while the question was being revealed to them. |
![]() The Analyse Respondent pop-up | This allows the admin/reviewer to look through the question reveal recordings, and look for anything suspicious; Such as googling, rehearsing the answer off another screen or even just grabbing their phone. |
![]() | If the user determines there is no suspicious behaviour, they can simply close the window and check off the Recommend Review toggle on the respondent. |
![]() Flag Suspicious Behaviour Toggle - Off | However, if there is indeed suspicious behaviour, switch tabs from the Preparation Videos to the Confirmation tab. |
![]() Flag Suspicious Behaviour Toggle – On | On the new tab, you will find another toggle. Flag suspicious behaviour. Toggling this and submitting the form will update the candidate to be set to Suspicious Behaviour. |
![]() Candidate Troy Steepe – Set to suspicious behaviour. | Like the Recommend Review tag before, Suspicious Behaviour will appear next to the candidate on the Candidate Index page, the Candidate Details page, and the Group Report. |
![]() The Group Report – Suspicious Behaviour | This tag will appear to all admins and reviewers in the client account. This tag can also be removed by any of those users as well. So, we recommend leaving an overall comment, with reference to the video watched, and why you believe it is suspicious. |
When to Use This Feature
Importantly, this feature is not designed to be used for most candidates. This feature has been made for those times when it seems a candidate is receiving assistance, such as reading a response off ChatGPT.
Sometimes, a candidate might be reading off some prepared material that they had, or a note that they’ve made for themselves prior to the interview. So it important to study the differences and communicate within the hiring team when making this decision. The Suspicious Behaviour tag will affect the respondent when it comes to giving an impression to the hiring team, so be certain when you use it.
