Vieple allows different response types to be used in your interviews. This gives you more flexibility in the types of questions asked of your candidates.
The following article provides an explanation of the different response types available.

Video Response Type
Video responses are the staple for the Vieple platform. Candidates are shown the question in their viewing time, before being prompted to provide a response with both audio and video simultaneously captured at the same time.
Audio Response Type
This response type captures just the audio from a candidate. Similar to the other question types, they will be presented the question in viewing time, before being prompted to respond.
This is a good alternative to a video response if the candidates require an alternative way to respond or are in a remote area without a strong enough internet connection to upload a video response.
Text Response Type
Text response type questions is an alternative response type, meant for candidate to provide shorter responses to questions. The text box for responding is smaller and it does not visually track how many words the candidate provides in response.
If you require a longer text response to a question, it is suggested that you use the Essay response type instead.
Essay Response Type
Essay questions will allow candidates to type an extended response to a question, which is automatically saved at regular intervals. The page will also keep track of their word count, so they can see the length of their response.

Respondent Perspective
Close-Ended (Multiple Choice) Response Type
This feature is not enabled on all accounts by default. If you would like to request this feature for your accounts, please contact your account manager.
Close-Ended Questions allow you to offer Respondents the option to pick from one or more multiple-choice answers.
You can assign each response with a score, which will show in the group report. If a question has multiple possible answers, the score from the answers they pick will be added together.
To set up a Close-Ended Question on your account, you can follow the instructions below.
When creating an interview, you can select the Close Ended question type:
After that, fill in your question text:
Then, select Click here to setup response options.
In the pop-up that appears, you will need to select several settings:
| |
*Important* If you choose to allow for more than 1 answer, the sum of all scores for each selected answer will be added up.
If the total score is less than 1, the final score will be 1. If the total score is greater than 5, the final score will be 5.
We suggest considering this when setting up your question, so that the scoring will align with what you expect. For example, you could set incorrect answers with a very low negative value to ensure a score of 1.
In this example, we would be giving candidates a score of 1 if they selected anything other than the correct ingredients of a cake.
Select how you would like to display the options to the respondent.

Attachment Response Type
This feature is not enabled on all accounts by default. If you would like to request this feature for your accounts, please contact your account manager.
This response type allows for respondents to upload a file from their device in response to the question.
Some examples of how this response type can be used include:
- Asking the candidate to upload a certification (e.g. their csv, academic transcript, cover letter, etc)
- Having the candidate download a document which they must edit within the question time, and then reuploading the document with their edits.
How to Set up your Attachment Question
In interview settings, add new question and select Attachment from the drop-down menu.
Available file types which can be uploaded:
Different file types can be chosen from the different categories. E.g. both a .docx and .xlsx fileile type can be chosen for the candidate to upload.
Questions have a default allocated time, however this can be increased/decreased per question, or the time limit can be removed. To preface to a candidate that a document will be required, enable the question for preview in the question's setting. This will then display in the preview window. This may be best practice so candidates are aware before they start their interview.
By default, in "Additional options", respondents are not allowed to re-answer the question. This can be enabled for the question.
There is a limit of one file to be uploaded per question. If you require additional files to be uploaded, then additional questions must be added to the interview. |
Candidate Perspective
Candidate will proceed to their interview questions as per normal.
When they reach an attachment question, it will display to either click on or drag and drop the file into the space which is normally where their video camera is.
If the candidate uploads an attachment that is the wrong file type they will receive an error message, telling them to try again.
If the candidate uploads the correct file type, they will see a green ticket, next to the file. They can still choose to upload a different file before clicking "submit", this will then overwrite the file they had uploaded before.
Clicking Submit will finalise their uploaded document. |
Your View & Downloading Documents
You can download a candidate's document by clicking to review the specific question in their profile.
Some documents are available to be viewed on Vieple without requiring to be downloaded. The ones that will not display are .docx and .xlsx file types as Microsoft has additional restrictions. The file can be downloaded in the bottom right of the box.
Below the file, a box will display if the file is safe to download as it will have been scanned by Vieple's antivirus protection. If it is safe, it will be a green box with a tick. If the file has unsafe content in it, the box will be red and the file will be unable to be read or downloaded. The candidate should be contacted to ensure a safe document can be uploaded and the question to be reset. This will remove the file from the profile. We are unable to provide any documents that are marked as unsafe. |
